Importing Contacts from CSV

Published July 07, 2026

The import flow

Navigate to CRM > Contacts and click Import CSV to start. Upload your file and EmpireVault's AI suggests a column mapping for you - which spreadsheet column becomes first name, email, company, and so on - which you can review and adjust before running anything. Preview a sample of the mapped rows, then run the import. Imports process in the background, and the import's page reports progress and row counts as it goes.

Applying default tags

Set one or more default tags on an import to apply them to every contact in the batch - for example, an "Imported 2026-04" tag - so you can find or manage that batch later without hunting through the whole contact list.

Rolling back an import

If an import applied default tags, admins can open the import's page and click Rollback tags. Review the preview - how many tag assignments will be reverted versus skipped - and confirm. A contact is skipped if they already had the tag before the import, or if someone changed their tags afterward, so manual work is never undone by a rollback. Once rolled back, the import shows who did it and when, and the action cannot be run twice.
